Located about 20 miles outside of downtown Sedona, the drive to the trailhead is also picturesque!

The most popular place for swimming in Sedona during the summer months is at Sliding Rock State Park. Here the Oak Creek flows over small waterfalls which create a natural rock water slide visitors enjoy sliding down. There are a number of other swimming locations throughout the Verde Valley as well as numerous creeks where visitors can cool off in the water, and then relax on the creekside beaches.

Sunset Crater Volcano

Located about an hour North of Sedona, the Sunset Crater Volcano shows the raw power of nature. Despite erupting around 1085, the cooled lava flows can still be found around the base of the volcano. While you aren’t able to hike to the volcano crater itself, you can hike the nearby O’Leary Peak which provides a beautiful view down into the volcano’s crater.
